Directed by Gil Junger, produced by Andew Lazer and written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kristen Smith. 10 things I hate about you is a modernization of William Shakespeare's late 16th century comedy 'The Taming Of The Show' it's retold in a late 1900's American high school setting. This film was released March 31st, 1999. It rated number two at domestic box office during it's opening weekend. The number one was The Matrix. 10 things I hate about you was a moderate financial and critical success. It starred some breakthrough roles such as Julia Stiles as Katarina Stratford. Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona. Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Who were then nominated for various teen-oriented awards. This film was then turned into a television series 10 years later. Heath Ledger then later went on to play roles in films such as 'Brokeback Mountain' as Ennis Del Mar, and also 'The Dark Knight' as the
