Insidious: The last key is the forth instalment of the franchise. It is a American supernatural horror film. Directed by Adam Robitel and written by Leigh Whannell. Some of the main themes in this film are violence and the supernatural. The writer of the film Leigh Whannell also stars in the film as 'Specs'. The production company that worked on the film was Blumhouse Production Stage 6 Films. It was distributed by Universal Pictures. The film so far has grossed over $126,702,695 worldwide and in it's opening weekend it grossed $29,581,355 and ranked no.2 in the most cinemas.

Her and her two investigating partners travel to the most recent haunting, which happens to be the spirit she accidentally set free years earlier. The films are based around Elise Rainier, played by Lin Shaye. The principle photography began in August 2016 and ended the following month. On August 29, 2017, it was announced via Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights that the film would be tilted Insidious: The Last Key. It was released on January 5, 2018. As of January 14, 2018, it has grossed $52 million in the United States and Canada and $44.5 million in other countries. The budget of the film was $10 million.
The films critical response on rotten tomatoes, it has an approval rating of 31% based on 71 reviews, with an average rating of 5/10. On Metacritic, the film has received 48/100 based on 22 critics. CinemaScore gave the film grade B- on a scale of A*-F. Also some critics praised Lin Shayes performance but stated that the franchise had run its course.
 
Toby Oliver, the cinematographer that worked on this film is an award winning cinematographer. He was named on the Variety's 10 cinematographer to watch in 2017. He shot Jordan Peele's comedic thriller horror 'Get out' in early 2016 with Allison Williams and Daniel Kaluuya. 'Get out' scored 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. He worked on Insidious: The last key and Happy Death Day back to back, which was then released on October 13, 2017.
 
The production company of all four chapters of Insidious, Blumhouse Production has produced many horror, thriller films such as, Paranormal Activity, insidious, the babymakers, sinister, dark skies and the purge. The Insidious franchise has won awards such as, the first Insidious won a Chainsaw Award for best supporting actress Lin Shaye. It also won best horror movie at the Fright Meter Awards.
