Film Review
Stephen Kings 'IT' has to be one of the most talked about horror films of this year. Pennywise, the famous dancing clown, played by Bill Skarsgard, has to be one of the creepiest clowns around. His white, colourless face, his piercing yellow eyes and his sharp teeth are possibly one of the scariest things you could picture.
'IT' was originally a TV-series starting in the 1990's. You are told that Pennywise comes back every 27 years, the remake of this film was made in 2017, that makes it 27 years since the original was first aired. Bill Skarsgard first time meeting the teenagers was once they had started filming, this was done so the teenage actors were scared of Pennywise while filming. The film is based around seven teenagers who come face to face with their own fears, while being terrorised by the one and only Pennywise, the dancing clown.
The actors and actresses in the film all play their roles very well. One example is Finn Wolfhard, who is best known for his role as Mike Wheeler in 'Stranger Things.' In 'IT' he plays the role of Richie. Personally, I think that Finn Wolfhard was the perfect choice for the character of Richie, this could be because I have previously watched him in the hit TV show 'Stranger Things' where he plays a similar role as he does in 'IT.' Billl Skarsgard, I think was perfect for the role of Pennywise, one reason being is the 'demonic' smile he does while playing the role. He was also brought up in the world of acting through his dad.
The camera angles used in the film are amazing. One of the frequent camera angles used was a close up, this made Pennywise look even more terrifying as you could see every little detail on his face. Another camera angle used a lot it a wide angle, this was used mostly with scenes with Jaeden Lieberher, who plays Bill Denrough. I think this was done because throughout the film you get the sense that he feels alone and no one really understands him. When he is shown in a wide angled he is normally alone, this also supports the audiences understanding that he feels alone and isolated from the rest of his friends.
Overall, I think that the film was very good. However, I would not say that it's a scary film, yes there's jump scares but there's not many. Despite the fact the film isn't as scary as I would have thought it would be it was very good, it was more funny than scary. Personally, I would say that the film 'Annabelle' was scarier than 'IT.'
